About Digital Files
We know that the digital world can be daunting for those who are not accustomed to it. So here is a little more information if you do need it. We want you to be able to get the most out of your downloads.
What are the digital file types?
You will receive a digital copy of a high quality 300DPI PDF and JPG in 8 sizes. A PDF has better accuracy when it comes to a quality print and colour. It’s what you will need to print posters professionally, and it’s the easiest to use for home printing. The JPG is a compressed image file. You may need this if you are printing the document as an image. However, we recommend using your PDF version.
What is DPI?
DPI stands for ‘Dots per inch’, meaning image resolution. You will see this mentioned if you are printing things professionally, and it is important if you are wanting to print high quality images or large scale prints.
RGB and CMYK?
Have you ever wondered why your printouts look so different to what was on your screen? Or noticed when purchasing everyday items, warnings and mentions of variations in screen colours to the items? We have done our best to reduce this, and have tested it across multiple devices to ensure accuracy.
- RGB is the colour space used to display images and colours on screens.
- CMYK is (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) the colours of ink that printers use.
Your files you receive are exported as CMYK, so that when printed they are as close as possible to what you see on your screen, and exported in colours that your printer can recreate.
We also offer a sample colour sheet if you would like to play around with your printer to get the best outcome, or if you are particular about room styling like me; and want a colour swatch to hold against your decor. We are also happy to discuss any colour styling questions you have! Please contact us if you would like a copy of our samples.
How do I Print?
Once you have completed your purchase you will receive a link to your files. These are now yours to keep forever, so remember to save them. If you are printing at home, we conveniently live in a world now where most printers are connected to wifi. You may not even need your computer, if you can print directly from your personal devices.
For professional looking prints at home, make sure you are printing using the best quality print settings your printer supports. Ensure you are using premium digital quality paper. Paper makes a huge difference to the final result. This will ensure sharp, vibrant and clear quality prints. I recommend the paper weight to be of 180gsm or higher.
GSM is ‘grams per square meter’ for those who are new to this. This will help you understand the paper quality, when wondering why there are so many kinds. The higher the GSM number the heavier the paper. There are so many beautiful paper options available for inkjet and laser printers, you can try printing on lab quality canvas paper, or photo paper. A linen textured paper gives a beautiful effect for a framed item.
If you are wanting to print professionally you can print as an artwork image or as a poster. There are so many options regarding durability, appearance and finish qualities depending on your budget and how you are using the poster. For example if you are framing the poster, you wouldn’t need to pay the extra for a laminated, UV, waterproof finish, etc. Most professional printing companies offer online uploads, and shipping so you don’t have to leave the house.
